DENTAL OFFICE RENOVATION LAD DENTAL CORPORATION TYPE 5 43,000 USD TEMPLE CITY, CALIFORNIA COMPLETED 1,640 SF DENTAL PROCEDURE ROOMS, OFFICE, EXTERIOR FACADE HARLEY ELLIS DEVEREAUX SENIOR ARCHITECT TEMPLE CITY, WEST SAN GABRIEL VALLEY, IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, WAS FOUNDED IN 1923 BY WORKMAN-RANCHER WALTER P. TEMPLE. TODAY, TEMPLE CITY IS A MODEST CITY WITH A MAJORITY YOUNGER EAST ASIAN POPULATION. TO MEET THE POPULATION DEMAND, A GROWING DENTAL CLINIC ON TEMPLE CITY BOULEVARD REQUIRED RENOVATION. THE BUILDING TO BE RENOVATED MAINTAINS ITS HISTORIC CHARACTER WITH AN ORIGINAL 1950’S MODERN DESIGN LANGUAGE. IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS THE BUILDING HAS ALSO TAKEN TO SEVERAL PARTIAL RENOVATIONS WHICH CLASH WITH ITS HISTORIC CHARACTER. THIS RENOVATION PROJECT ATTEMPTS TO CORRECTLY REVIVE THE HISTORIC CHARACTER THROUGH THE INSERTION OF CONTEMPORARY DESIGN ELEMENTS. THE PROJECT ENCOMPASSES THE STREET FACADE AND THE INTERIOR TO THE EXISTING DENTAL CLINIC. ON THE EXTERIOR, A NEW HOMOGENEOUS STEEL SKIN BECOMES THE BACKGROUND FOR THE SIGNAGE WHILE ALSO AMENDING THE OUTDATED BUILDING FACADE. IN THE INTERIOR OFFICE AREAS, THE USE OF TRANSLUCENT GLASS PARTITIONS MAKES THE CLINIC FEEL LARGER, WHILE IN THE PROCEDURE ROOMS, CUSTOM MULTI-PURPOSE CABINET MODULES CREATE A SPACE OF CLARITY AND VISUAL ORDER.
